Local Tool & CLI Companion

The Codex Usage downloadable utilities (including the native macOS menu bar companion, the terminal CLI, and the local browser dashboard) run entirely on your local machine.

• No telemetry: The local tool sends no usage telemetry, tokens, prompts, code snippets, or analytics back to Codex Usage or third parties.
• In-memory data: Quota calculations and session pace measurements are held in volatile memory only and are discarded when the application exits.
• Direct client communication: The companion communicates solely with your locally authenticated OpenAI Codex CLI session.

On this website (codexusage.dev), we use two distinct analytics implementations to monitor site health and understand user interest.

Geo-Aware Consent & Opt-In Behavior

So that visitors in opt-in regions get a consent banner and everyone else does not, CodexUsage checks the visitor's country at request time using our hosting platform (Vercel):

• Opt-in regions: For visitors from the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Canada, Google Analytics is completely blocked by default. A consent banner is presented, and no Google Analytics script is loaded, no Google Analytics request is sent, and no Google Analytics cookies are set unless the visitor affirmatively clicks “Accept analytics”.
• Other regions: For visitors outside those specified regions, Google Analytics may load normally without an upfront banner. However, the same preference control is always available in the site footer and on this page.
• Google Basic Consent Mode: Advertising storage (ad_storage), ad user data (ad_user_data), and ad personalization (ad_personalization) are permanently set to denied. We do not use Google Ads, remarketing, Google Signals, advertising personalization, enhanced conversions, or user tracking IDs.
• Country-level only: Geolocation is evaluated solely at the coarse country level at request time. Codex Usage does not store IP addresses, precise location coordinates, city, latitude, or longitude.

Categories of Information Measured by Google Analytics

Where Google Analytics is loaded (after opt-in or in non-opt-in regions), it may collect and measure:

• Page visits: Visited URLs, page titles, and navigation path across documentation topics.
• Device and browser characteristics: Operating system, browser type, device category, screen resolution, and language settings.
• Approximate geography: Coarse country- or region-level origin derived from the IP address during connection.
• Traffic source: Referring website, search engine, or direct URL entry.
• Engagement: Time spent on page, scroll depth, and interaction duration.
• Product interaction events: Explicit measurement events tied to key actions on CodexUsage.dev:
  • install_cta_click: Selecting an “Install Free” or installation options link.
  • install_command_copy: Copying the terminal CLI install curl command.
  • download_click: Initiating the macOS menu bar companion ZIP download.

Third-Party Data Use by Google

Google Analytics is provided by Google LLC. When Google Analytics is active, data generated about your use of this site is transmitted to and stored by Google on servers that may be located in the United States or other countries.

Changing Your Analytics Choice

You can change your saved choice at any time:

1. Click the Analytics Preferences link in the footer of any page, or click the button below.
2. The analytics card will appear, showing your current preference.
3. Select “Accept analytics” to enable Google Analytics, or “No thanks” to disable it. When declined, existing Google Analytics cookies are cleared and Google Analytics is blocked from sending further hits.
